What Is Virgin Atlantic Airlines' Baggage Policy?

One can travel for a variety of reasons and for different amounts of time; some may want to visit a certain destination just for a weekend for leisure activity, some may be out there only for a couple of days for business purposes, while others may be planning to locate there for a long term due to job or education matter. Each trip requires contrasting baggage allowances; however, they must know about Virgin Atlantic Airlines' baggage policy to make their luggage accordingly. Thus, the baggage policy of the mentioned airline can be seen as:

Cabin Baggage Policy

  • 23 x 36 x 56 cm are the maximum dimensions of the handbag you can carry onboard.
  • While flying in the Economy or Premium Class, you are allowed to carry one piece of handbag weighing not more than 10 kg.
  • While flying in the Upper Class, you can carry up to two pieces of handbags, where each bag can weigh up to 12 kg, and the combined weight of both bags can't exceed 16 kg.
  • Infants aged between 0 and 23 months can bring one bag with a maximum weight of 6 kg.
  • Children above 2 years can carry the same amount of hand luggage as adults.
  • You can bring a pushchair while travelling with an infant, provided its maximum dimensions, when folded, do not exceed 23 x 36 x 56 cm.
  • Apart from hand baggage, Virgin Atlantic Airlines also allows you to bring some other items, including a small backpack, pocketbook, or purse that fits under your seat, an overcoat, an umbrella, a small camera, a few reading materials for a flight, infant's food, a few duty-free goods, and standard 3.5 mm jach headphones.

Checked-In Baggage Policy

  • The dimensions of each bag should stick to 90 x 75 x 43 cm.
  • Economy Light Class tickets do not allow passengers to bring free checked-in luggage. However, they can buy additional baggage during check-in.
  • Economy Delight and Premium Class ticket passengers can bring one checked-in baggage for free, whose weight shouldn't exceed 23 kg.
  • Premium Class passengers can take two checked-in baggage, each weighing up to 23 kg.

  • Except for Economy Light ticket passengers, infants on the lap can bring one checked-in baggage.
  • Infants on the lap in the Economy Light cabin can purchase checked-in baggage for 75 USD per bag.

Note:

  • For flights to and from Ghana, India, and Nigeria, Economy Delight and Premium class cabin passengers can also take two checked-in bags, each weighing up to 23 kg.
  • While travelling in a group booking, you cannot combine your luggage. Thus, each has to separate their luggage.

Excess Baggage Policy

  • Each passenger is allowed to purchase seven extra bags during online check-in.
  • However, one can purchase ten extra bags while checking in at the airport counters.
  • First and second-checked-in baggage would cost 75 USD each for those passengers whose any of the first two bags are not free.
  • For 3rd and onward luggage, you have to pay 200 USD per bag, provided that it is under the standard luggage measurement.
  • Every overweight baggage is charged at 100 USD.
  • Every oversized baggage is charged at 300 USD

Note: Excess baggage fee is neither refundable nor transferable.

Special Baggage Policy

  • You can bring your musical instrument onboard, provided it fits in the overhead storage bin. Its dimensions shouldn't exceed 23 x 36 x 56 cm, and its weight should be limited to 10 kg for economy and premium class and 12 kg for Upper-class passengers.
  • You can even buy an extra seat for your musical instrument and board a maximum of two instruments if its maximum weight is 75 kg, with a central mass not exceeding 30 cm, provided it is a window seat and does not reside in the emergency exit row.
  • Sports equipment or musical instruments can be exchanged for checked-in baggage, which should meet standard measurements.
  • You must pay the excess baggage fee if you take your special baggage in excess of checked-in baggage.
  • If your special baggage weighs between 23 and 32 kg, you must pay an overweight fee.
  • However, if your luggage weighs more than 32 kg and its dimensions are between 90 x 75 x 43 cm and 190 x 75 x 65 cm, you can use Virgin Atlantic Cargo to transport your equipment to your desired destination.
  • As the air pressure in-flight changes, all balls, including football and rugby balls, are partially deflated before acceptance.

Check-in is a must-do as it informs the airline that you will take your flight so that the airline won't assign your seat to someone else. Moreover, with online check-in with Virgin Atlantic Airlines, you can save time by directly off to boarding instead of waiting in long queues at the check-in counters at the airport. • To check-in online, log into your Virgin Atlantic account and click on the online check-in option provided after your travel itinerary opens.

What Are The Refund Policy In Case I Cancel My Virgin Atlantic Airlines Flight?

Unexpected situations can arise when one has to cancel their booking. However, booking a flight is very costly, and individuals may even have to make out-of-pocket expenditures to book a flight. Thus, if possible, one has to look out for different means to get back the amount if they haven't used their services. The section below will provide the guidelines for claiming your refund from Virgin Atlantic Airlines.

  • The amount to be refunded on your flight ticket will vary based on the terms and conditions of your flight ticket.
  • According to your ticket's terms and conditions, you can even apply for a refund for any additional cost you have paid for the flight.
  • For a full refund, you must complete two forms: "Claim a refund for your booking" and "Claim a refund for your excess baggage/seat/upgrades."
